This week in my religion class at Villa Julie College I had one of those break through moments. I had one of those moments where you learn something that you feel you should already have known. This week in religion class I learned that Christmas was actually scheduled around a pagan holiday. The Christmas season was scheduled around this holiday in order to not go against the majority of people who celebrated at this time. This was a new piece of information to me, unless I had completely forgotten about it.
I went to a Catholic high school and middle school, and I felt like I must have fallen asleep all through those years. I would insist that all students take a religion class in college, because so many cultures are affected by religion every day. I don’t even know why my religion’s holidays are scheduled the way they are. What else am I ignorant to? Maybe education is the key to peace in society. If everyone understood more about each other’s cultures then maybe we could actually work things out through actions, other than violence. Maybe feeling completely stupid about my own religion has made me eager to learn, but I feel that I am a better person because of my religion class. Confucius felt that education was the key to a good citizen. Maybe he was right. I learned that in religion class too. Sorry, now I’m just showing off.

I didn't know about Christmas being scheduled around a pagan holiday, that is so interesting. I also was in private catholic school until 10th grade and never paid any attention. haha
